The joint testphase of Entsorgungsbetriebe Lübeck (EBL) and adhoc networks GmbH to prototype the innovative fill level measurement will last several months. Apart from the usual fill level, EBL wants to detect whether the hatches of the container are blocked but the container itself has still free capacity inside. Especially in paper/cardboard containers, this issue has become more critical in recent years.
\nFor this problem we have developed a innovative solution, which can monitor the area of the hatches in addition to usual fill level measurement. If the system detects a blocked hatch, a respective notification is being generated. EBL can then send employees to unblock the container and make it usable again without having to send the expensive collection vehicle. Also time consuming cleaning of the container isle due to overfilling is being prevented.
\nThe prototype of the solution is based on the proven vartios smart waste system and comprises two additional optical sensors, which were included in the existing housing.
\nThe solution is being tested in 10 paper containers in the city of Lübeck and after successful testing will be further developed to series maturity. Apart from the paper containers, the standard vartios system is being installed in 4 textiles and 4 glas containers. In order to verify measurement results conveniently, EBL uses our new vartios mobile app, which is available for android and iOS.

In future, citizens of Lübeck shall also have access to the data. They will be able to find the desired containers and get the information, whether the respective containers still have free space.
